  this quote got me thinking:if you pray sincerely and admit you are a sinner and accept christ as your savior you can have the holy spirit come into your life.. .

  i used to do this everyday.

  when i was being abused, i used to pray incessantly for god to help me.

  What's so ridiculous about that?

  It's ridiculous in the sense that no matter which choice I pick, I'm giving you atheists a huge opening to attack my beliefs. Sorry, not going to happen. Therefore, I refuse to answer.

  Or maybe I did mean atheists. I don't understand why you must make fun of lover of truth when she simply stated her beliefs. Ever stop to think some people may think your beliefs and opinions are silly?

  logansrun - Sorry, but I think that is a ridiculous question. You know I believe in both God and the afterlife, and you are making me choose just to prove my beliefs are silly.

  If you all want to think I'm nuts because I still believe in God, fine. But I am getting the impression that some of you left the JWs with a bitter taste in your mouth. You can't let a group of people who take everything from some magazine, published by people who are self proclaimed faithful and discreet slaves, sway how you believe.

  I'm an agnostic because I can neither prove nor disprove the existence of some God or Supreme Being.

  So you are saying you believe it's possible he does exist? That's good.

  As for a resurrection, I have yet to see any evidence for such a thing. Therefore it would be silly for me to cling to such a belief. So to me, your statement is kind of like, "I don't know how you could possibly be happy as an atheist knowing you will never get Christmas presents from Santa Claus."

  Um, that's a bad analogy. Not getting presents and only living on earth for 70+ odd years are completely different things. I could care less about getting presents on Christmas. But the thought of not having any life after our short existence on Earth scares the heck outta me. I don't know how you all can brush it off like it's nothing.

  I'm certainly no expert on the Bible, theology, evolution, etc. I just know what I believe. I don't know how you could possibly be happy as an atheist knowing you are going to die and never be resurrected.

  In other words, it's a hapiness based on unreality, and that, to me, is the ultimate foolishness for an intelligent adult.

  A happiness based on reality? The Bible is noted for its historical accuracy, and not just by JWs. I live in Kansas, and I've heard they have found shark bones around here. That means at one time, it had to be underwater(Noah's flood).

  As for why God answers some prayers and ignores others, I can't answer that fully. I do know that Jesus did warn his followers that they would be persecuted and ridiculed. He never promised them a rich, American dream lifestyle. Maybe the people who prayed to God and won the lottery was just chance. As for the concentration camps, the Nazis were eventually defeated and exposed at the Nuremberg(sp?) trials, were they not?
